This is a head-and-shoulder portrait of Mr. George John Mansfield, head of the Walter Mansfield and Company, a shipping agent, from 1873 to 1883. He came to Singapore in March 1866. His father, Captain George Mansfield founded the George Mansfield & Company, a general commission agents and auctioneers, in Commercial Square (later Raffles Place) in October 1861. After his father's death, Mr. Walter Mansfield, his uncle took over the business in 1864 and turns it to Walter Mansfield & Company. When Walter passed away in 1873, Mr. George John Mansfield took over the shipping firm and retired in 1883. George was succeeded by Mr. Theodore Cornelius Bogaardt. Title devised by Library staff.
