This is a full-length portrait of Mr. Lee Kong Chian (李光前) in ceremonial robe of the Chancellor of University of Singapore a position he held from 1962 to 1965. A prominent Hokkien community leader, philanthropist and millionaire he was the founding member of Singapore Anti-Tuberculosis Association (1947); Member of Singapore Advisory Council (1946); the first President of Singapore Council of Social Services (1958-1964); Vice-Chairman (1932-1937) and later Chairman of Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Limited (1938-1964); Chairman of Chinese High School Management Committee (1934-1954) and President of Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce (1939-1940, 1946-1947).
