Information About

This is a view of Gemmill Fountain, the first public drinking fountain at Raffles Place. Mr. John Gemmill, an auctioneer and banker in 1840s, donated the fountain in 1864. The original location of the fountain is not known. It was located at Empress Place (1939-1947) and later relocated to the grounds of National Museum of Singapore in 1967, and was sent to Heritage Conservation Centre when the Museum underwent redevelopment in 2002. The fountain was fully restored with a motion-activated spout and put on display at the outdoor Terrace of National Museum of Singapore in 2010. Title devised by Library staff.
