This is a portrait of Mr. Ghelabhoy Uttamram, a prominent Indian philanthropist and textile merchant of the firm, Uttaram (Singapore) & Company, with his wife. He donated 6.5 acres of land at Upper Changi Road to the Singapore Anti-Tuberculosis Association or SATA in 1954. He was Deputy Chairman of the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce (1939); Council Member of the SATA (1949-1979); and Member of the Hindu Advisory Board (1958-1965) and the Singapore Harbour Board (1960-1963).
