This is a portrait of Dr. Cham Tao Soon (詹道存), founding President of Nanyang Technological Institute (1981-1990) and Nanyang Technological University (1991-Dec 2002). He was a former student at Pasir Panjang Primary School and Raffles Institution; Member of the Science Council of Singapore (Jan 1977-1981) and Council of Presidential Advisers (2004-2010); Honorary Treasurer (1974), Vice-President (1978) and later, President of Council of Singapore Institution of Engineers (1980-1981); Senior Lecturer and later, Associate Professor of Mechanical and Production Engineering at University of Singapore (1977); Dean of Engineering at National University of Singapore (1980-1981); Chairman of National Institute of Education Council (1992) and NAFA Management Committee (2003); Vice-Chairman (1997-1998) and later, Chairman of Board of Directors of Singapore Symphony Orchestra (1999-2010); Director of WBL Corporation Limited (1985-to date), Robinson and Company Limited (2001-2006) and United Overseas Bank Limited (Jan 2001-to date); Chairman of Board of Governors of Raffles Junior College (2008); Deputy Chairman (Jan 2009-2010) and Chairman of Board of Governors of Raffles Institution (2011-to date); Member of Board of Governors of Singapore International Foundation (2005-to date); Chancellor (2006-to date) and Chairman of Board of Trustees of SIM University (2005-to date); Deputy Chairman of Singapore Press Holdings Limited (Mar 2004-to date); and Chairman of NatSteel Limited (1995-2008) and later, NSL Limited (Oct 2008-to date).
