This is a head-and-shoulder portrait of Mr. Tan Kah Kee (陈嘉庚), a prominent Hokkien community leader, rubber planter and philanthropist in Singapore. He was Chairman of Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan (1929-1949); founder and Chairman of Chinese High School Management Committee (1919, 1923-1927, 1930-1934); founder of Amoy University (1921), Nanyang Siang Pau (南洋商报), a Chinese newspaper (1923), Nan Chiao Girls' High School (1947) and co-founder of Nanyang University (1955).
