This is a half-length portrait of Mr. Wong Peng Soon, a famous badminton player and the first Asian to win the All-England Open Badminton Championships four times (1950, 1951, 1952, 1955). He was a member of the Malayan teams that dominated the Thomas Cup competition (1940s-1950s). He was also the first Singaporean athlete to be made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to sports in Malaya in 1956. Mr. Wong was awarded the Sijil Kemuliaan in the first-ever list of National Day honours in 1962. He was posthumously inducted into the Singapore Sports Museum Hall of Fame in 1986 and the International Badminton Federation Hall of Fame in 1999. Title devised by Library staff.
