This is an aerial view of the campus buildings of University of Singapore in Bukit Timah, with the ten-storey Science Tower (later "Tower Block"), built to house the Department of Chemistry. On the left foreground is Eusoff College, the university hall of residence or hostel for female students, which was open in 1958. The campus buildings used to house Raffles College between 1928 and 1949. In 1949, Raffles College and King Edward VII College of Medicine merged to form University of Malaya, precursor to University of Singapore (established in January 1962). In 1980, University of Singapore merged with Nanyang University to form National University of Singapore (NUS). Between 1982 and 2000, the Bukit Timah campus was occupied by National Institute of Education. Subsequently, it was occupied by Singapore Management University (2000-2005). The former Raffles College campus was gazetted as a national monument by Preservation of Monuments Board on 11 November 2009. In May 2005, the Government reallocated the Bukit Timah Campus to NUS.
