This is a head-and-shoulder portrait of Dato Wong Siew Qui, a prominent Chinese lawyer, businessman, and millionaire. Popularly known as S.Q. Wong, he was Director (1920-1974) and Chairman of Overseas Assurance Corporation Limited from 1931 to 1969; succeeding Mr. Lim Nee Soon, who served from 1921. He was admitted to the Middle Temple and called to the Bar in 1911. He was President of the Straits Chinese British Association (1924); Member of the Singapore Municipal Commission (1921-1938); Chairman of Singapore Traction Company (1964-1968) and Great Eastern Life Assurance Company (1951-1969); and Director of the Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Limited (1932-1968) and Sime Darby Holdings Limited (1964-1972). His father was Mr. Wong Ah Fook, the founder of the first local Kwong Yik Bank in Singapore in 1903. Title devised by Library staff.
