This is a head-and-shoulder portrait of Dr. Benjamin Henry Sheares, the second President of Singapore serving from January 1971 to May 1981. He was regarded as the father of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Singapore. He was a student of Methodist Girls' School, St. Andrew's School and Raffles Institution; Senior Assistant to Professor of Midwifery at King Edward VII College of Medicine (1933-1949); the first Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at University of Malaya in Singapore (1951-1960); Chancellor of University of Singapore (1971-1980); and Chancellor of National University of Singapore (1980-1981).
