This is a side view of the auditorium building of Nanyang University in Jurong. Completed around 1963, it also housed lecture rooms of Faculty of Commerce. The university campus was built on land donated by Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan, a clan association. The groundbreaking ceremony was officiated by Mr. Tan Lark Sye, Chairman of Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan and Nanyang University Council, on 26 July 1953. The first bacth of students was admitted on 15 March 1956. The campus was declared open by Mr. Tan Lark Sye and Sir William Goode, Governor of Singapore, on 29 March 1958. In 1980, Nanyang University merged with University of Singapore (established on 1 January 1962) to form National University of Singapore (NUS). In 1981, Nanyang Technological Institute (NTI) was established on the same campus in Jurong. In 1991, NTI became Nanyang Technological University (NTU) with the absorption of National Institute of Education (NIE). In April 2006, NTU was corporatised. Title devised by Library staff.
