This is an elevated view of the new buildings of Nan Hua Primary School at 334, Clementi Avenue 1. The U-shaped building is four-storey high with an adjoining two-storey hall cum tuckshop (small food-selling retailer) building. The school was established as "Nan Hwa Girls' School" at Coleman Street on 14 June 1917 by a group of overseas Chinese businessmen led by Mr. Xiong Shangfu (熊尚父). In 1918, it moved to Bencoolen Street. The school was closed in 1924 and reopened in 1928. In 1939, a branch school was set up at Middle Road. In 1941, a new school was built at 2, Adis Road. The old premises became the branch school while the new premises as the main school. In 1961, the branch school was separated from the main school. At the end of 1961, the old building at Bencoolen Street was demolished to make way for a new five-storey building. The new school building was completed in September 1962, and declared open by Mr. Yong Nyuk Lin, Minister for Health and Acting Minister for Education, on 15 March 1964. In 1964, the school became "Nan Hwa Girls' Primary School" (南华女子小学), and when boys were accepted, it became "Nan Hwa Primary School" (南华小学). The school moved to Clementi Avenue 1 on 18 July 1983. The new premises was declared open by Mr. Ho Kah Leong, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Education, on 3 August 1985. The school was relocated to 30, Jalan Lempeng in November 1998. In 2000, the school underwent PRIME and was completed in 2002. Past principals of Nan Hua Primary School include Madam Kao Ching Ming (1961-1981); Madam Fong Yuet Kwai (冯月桂, 1981-2003); Mrs. Lee Hui Feng (钟蔚芬, Jan 2004-Dec 2009); Mrs. Becky Neo-Teo Hoon Peng (张筠平, Dec 2009-to date).
