Information About

This picture depicts a view of St. Matthew's Church at 184, Neil Road. Established in 1902, the Anglican church began as a Cantonese-speaking congregation of St. Peter's Church on Stamford Road. It was relocated to Neil Road in 1929. A new church building was built and completed on Neil Road. The foundation stone was laid by Bishop Roland Koh Peck Chiang, who dedicated the church on 24 December 1963. Canon James Leung served as the first Pastor of the new church. When the church building and the land were acquired by the Government for the development of the Mass Rapid Transit, a new church building was built and completed on Eng Hoon Street in March 2005. It was consecrated by Archbishop John Chew on 7 May 2006. Title devised by Library staff.
