This is a photograph of the facade of Sakya Muni Buddha Gaya Temple featuring an image of a tiger and a leopard at 366, Race Course Road. The Buddhist temple is also known as "Temple of a Thousand Lights". Founded in 1927 by Venerable Vutthisasara, a Thai monk, the temple was originally built with wood and zinc. A new temple was constructed later with donations from brothers Aw Boon Haw and Aw Boon Par, both well-known philanthropists. It currently houses a Buddha statue weighing 300 tonnes and standing at 15 metres high. Title devised by Library staff.
