This is a façade of Chung Hwa Free Clinic at 640, Lorong 4 Toa Payoh. It was commissioned by Singapore Chinese Physicians' Association in 1971, and built using the donation from the public. The Clinic started offering medical consultations and treatments from 28 October 1978. Mr. Soon Peng Yam, Chairman of Chung Hwa Free Clinic Foundation, laid the foundation stone of the clinic on 20 September 1977. It was declared open by Mr. Ong Pang Boon, Minister for Labour and Honorary Adviser of the Clinic, on 27 October 1979. In 2003, Chung Hwa Free Clinic was renamed "Singapore Chung Hwa Medical Institution". Title devised by Library staff.
