This is an elevated view of Singapore Convict Jail bounded by Bras Basah Road, Queen Street, Stamford Road and Bencoolen Street. It was the first permanent prison in Singapore. It was constructed with bricks and was completed in 1841. It was abandoned in 1882 when prisoners were transferred to the Outram Prison. Later, the old jail building became headquarters of F Malay Company of Singapore Volunteer Corps (1910-1937) and home to Catholic Young Men's Association. Title devised by Library staff.
