This photograph, taken between 1880 and 1889 from G.R. Lambert & Co., shows a view of the Government House. Designed by the Colonial Engineer John Frederick Adolphus McNair and built in 1869, the Government House was the residence of the Governor of the Straits Settlements and later the Governor of the Colony of Singapore. Today, it is the official residence of the President of the Republic of Singapore, known as the Istana. Title from inscription, on front of photograph.
