This is a head-and-shoulder portrait of Sir Ernest Woodford Birch, the eighth British Resident of Perak, who served from 1904 to 1910. He was committee member (1883) and Cricket Captain (1884-1886, 1888) of the Singapore Cricket Club. He was also the eldest son of Mr. James Wheeler Woodford Birch, commonly known as J.W.W. Birch, the first British Resident of Perak and President of the Tanglin Club in 1871-1873. Title devised by Library staff.
