This is a head-and-shoulder portrait of Mr. John Le Cain, Deputy Commissioner (Jun 1962), Acting Commissioner (Mar 1963-1964) and later Commissioner of Police in the Singapore Police Force from July 1964 to September 1967; succeeding Mr. A.E.G. Blades (Alan Edmund Grove Blades), who served from September 1957 to 1963. He was Commandant of the Police Training School; Director of the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (1957-1959); Acting Assistant Commissioner (Detachments) (1959-1960) and later Assistant Commissioner (Detachments) of Police (1961); Chairman of the Singapore Pools (1968); and Councellor (Defence) for the Singapore High Commissioner in London (1969-1971). He joined the Police Force as a Probation Inspector in 1939 and was promoted to Assistant Superintendent (1948). He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in 1967. Title devised by Library staff.
