Information About

This is a view of Shaw House (left), Lido Theatre (centre) and Shaw Centre (right) at the junction of Orchard Road with Scotts Road and Paterson Road. The original 10-storey office block of Shaw House was built between 1957 and 1958. It was declared open by Chief Minister Lim Yew Hock, on 22 November 1958. Sir Robert Scott, Commissioner-General for Southeast Asia, officiated at the opening ceremony of the 1602-seat Lido Theatre on 6 February 1959. In 1993, after three years of major reconstruction, Shaw House opened its doors to the public. It became a 22-storey complex comprising five storeys of shopping and restaurants managed by Japanese departmental store and anchor tenant Isetan. Lido Cineplex with five theatres adjoins the 25-storey Shaw Centre. In 1996, Lido Cineplex underwent renovations again and an 8-screen cineplex was unveiled. Title devised by Library staff.
