This picture depicts National Service recruits marching under the hot sun at the new Singapore Armed Forces Basic Military Training Centre (BMTC) on Pulau Tekong. The training centre was declared open by Dr. Tony Tan Keng Yam, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence, on 17 August 1999. The military training complex also housed the School of Infantry Specialists (SISPEC, later the Specialist Cadet School (SCS)) between 2000 and 2005. Title devised by Library staff.
