Jean Marshall watching the procession at the installation of Yusof bin Ishak as Singapore’s Yang di-Pertuan Negara (Malay for Head of State). The Yang di Pertuan Negara was a post created to replace the governor as Singapore’s head of state in preparation for self-governance. This photograph is part of Mrs Jean Marshall collection of photographs. In 1961, she became Jean Mary Marshall when she married David Marshall, Singapore's first elected Chief Minister.
