This picture depicts a view of a classroom block of Sin Min High School (新民中学) at 819, Upper Serangoon Road. Sin Min Public School (新民学校) was established as a primary Chinese-medium school in November 1945. Secondary classes began in 1956. In January 1988, the primary section was relocated to 9, Hougang Avenue 8 and became "Xinmin Primary School". In 1990, the secondary section was relocated to 11, Hougang Avenue 8 and became "Xinmin Secondary School", which was granted autonomous status by Ministry of Education in January 2001. It was relocated temporarily to 21, Fernvale Link, off Seng Kang West Avenue in January 2003, and return to Hougang Avenue 8, in December 2004. Past principals of Xinmin Primary School include Mr. Albert Ong (1988-1997); Ms Shirley Ng Ah Luat (1999-Dec 2004); Mr. Moses Sia Wei Leong (Dec 2004-2006); and Miss Lynn Cheah Poh Lian (谢宝莲, Dec 2006 to date). Past principals of Xinmin Secondary School include Mr. Yap Fun Hong (1945-1949); Mr. Heng Chin Soo (1950); Mr. Tung Si Yu (1953); Mr. Chew Peng Leng (1965-1985); Mr. Teo Ting Kok (1986-1991); Mr. Goh Tong Pak (1992-1997); Mr. Lee Hak Boon (1998-Dec 2002); Mrs. Low-Sim Ay Nar (沈爱娜, Dec 2002-Dec 2006); Madam Liew Wei Li (刘慧丽, Dec 2006-Dec 2010); and Mrs. Ong-Lim Hong Peng (林凤萍, 2011 to date).
