This is a head-and-shoulder portrait of Dr. Tan Eng Liang, Senior Minister of State for National Development from June 1975 to May 1978. He was a student of Pasir Panjang Primary School and Raffles Institution (1952-1957); Rhodes Scholar (1962); Senior Minister of State for Finance (Jun 1978-Feb 1979); People's Action Party Member of Parliament for River Valley (1972-1978); Member of the Board of Governors of Singapore Polytechnic (1967-1975) and the Science Council of Singapore (1968-1975); Minister-in-charge of Singapore Polytechnic and Ngee Ann Technical College (Apr 1976-1978); Deputy Chairman of Singapore Manufacturers' Association (1972) and Singapore Institute of Standards and Industrial Research or SISIR (1973-1975); Chairman of Urban Renewal Authority (Apr 1974-Mar 1978) and Singapore Sports Council (1975-1991); President of Singapore Island Country Club (Jan 1992-1994); Panel Judge (1982-1986) and Vice-President of the Singapore National Olympic Council (Jun 1992-to date); and Patron of Singapore Swimming Association (1991-2005). He represented Singapore in water polo at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne. He was awarded the Public Service Star (1971), Public Service Star (Bar) and Meritorious Service Medal by the Singapore Government as a recognition of his services to the country.
