This is a picture of traders busy at work in the trading room of the Malayan Stock Exchange (later known as "Stock Exchange of Malaysia and Singapore", and subsequently "Stock Exchange of Singapore"). Exchange clerks post the buying and selling prices on the board using white chalks after receiving instruction from brokers. Minister for Finance, Dr. Goh Keng Swee officially opened the Singapore Central Trading Room of the MSE at the sixth floor of Clifford House (later known as "Clifford Centre") at 12 Collyer Quay in Raffles Place on 18 February 1961. The MSE adopted the board trading system in 1961. Trading on the Stock Exchange of Singapore Limited began at Clifford Centre in Raffles Place on 4 June 1973. SES was officially inaugurated by Minister for Finance, Mr. Hon Sui Sen on 16 June 1973. SES moved to a new premises at seventh floor of Hong Leong Building at Raffles Quay on May 1976.
