This photograph shows the side view of a two-storey bungalow in Binjai Park. It belongs to Tan Peng Nam, the father of local pioneer architect, Lim Chong Keat, who co-founded Architects Team 3 (previously known as Malayan Architects Co-partnership, MAC). It features the veranda on the upper floor and the spacious neatly trimmed lawn around the bungalow. The house adopts a minimalist design with simple straight lines. The windows in the lower floor are fitted with grilles. Behind the bungalow is sweeping greenery with many tall trees, and the wire fencing along the bungalow's parameters. By late 1950s, Binjai Park was a housing estate of 30 bungalows. It was an estate with a difference as the owners had a say in the design of their houses. This was possible because they bought the land first before guiding architects to prepare the housing plans. Date of creation estimated. Title by Library staff. Description by Library staff. This photograph is part of the Datuk Seri Lim Chong Keat Collection.
