This photograph shows a street front view of the 6-storey C-shaped Merlin Hotel along Beach Road. It features the landscaping in front of the driveway, where big concrete letters of the hotel's name are displayed. The hotel occupied a large strip of land at Golden Mile, which is the land between Nicoll Highway and Beach Road. Officially opened for stay in November 1971, it also had restaurants and a bar. The next phase of the hotel's development included a 34-storey tower block and a shopping arcade. In November 1982, the name of the hotel was officially changed from Merlin Hotel to Plaza Hotel to avoid confusion with the President Merlin Hotel in Serangoon. Title by Library staff.
