Information About

This is a view of St. James Power Station at Keppel Road, near the West Wharf of Keppel Harbour. The power station began operation in 1926 and was the first coal-fired municipal power station in Singapore. In 1960, it was closed when six gas turbines were installed to generate more electricity. It ceased operations in the 1970s and became a warehouse of the Port of Singapore Authority. In September 2006, St. James Power Station reopened as a one-stop music and nightlife venue. It was gazetted as a national monument by the Preservation of Monuments Board on 11 November 2009. Title devised by Library staff.
