He was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General from Colonel in 1991 and later to Major General in July 1994. He was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Gold) in 2003, the Public Administration Medal (Gold) (Military) in 1994, the Public Administration Medal (Silver) (Military) in 1987, the SAF Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (12 years) in 1983, and the Commendation Medal (Silver) (Military) in 1982.
