This is a head-and-shoulder portrait of Mr. Haji Shafawi bin Ahmad, Acting President and later Vice-President of Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS) or Islamic Religious Council of Singapore from 1991 to 1995. He was a teacher at Kallang Malay Secondary School (1961); Principal of Serangoon Secondary School; Council Member of MUIS (1986-to date); Justice of the Peace; and President of Singapore Malay Teachers' Union (1979) and Persatuan Persuratan Pemuda Pemudi Melayu (4PM) or Malay Youth Literary Association (1972-1973). He was conferred the Public Service Star (BBM) in 1986. Title devised by Library staff.
