He was General Secretary of Shell Employees' Union (1955) and United Workers of Petroleum Industry (1961-1978); People's Action Party Member of Parliament for Bukit Ho Swee (1968-1984); and Member of Board of Directors of NTUC COMFORT (Nov 1970-Aug 1977).
