The book consists of a series of articles which appeared in the Straits Times during May 1897. The writer gives a history of the discovery and development of the Raub gold mine in Pahang by the Raub Australian Gold Mining Company. Included are descriptions of the problems faced by the manager such as the dense jungle, rebellion by the labourers, finances and security. The last two chapters are accounts of his journey back to Singapore by steamer, the people he met and the scenery along the way.
