An illustrated book on batik published by the National Museum, it provides a definition of the word "batik" which is derived from a Javanese root-word and gives a summary history of the cloth patterning technique which is practised widely throughout East and Southeast Asia. It includes information about preparation, application of wax, step by step dyeing methods, useful notes and illustrated samples.
