Information About

The author provides a detailed description of the island of Madagascar in an effort to promote the establishment of a French settlement there. There is also a description of Cochinchina, its government, manners and customs, religion, natural resources, commerce, agriculture etc. An essay entitled "Memoir on the Chinese trade" by M. Brunel found on pages 415-475 describes the various products such as silks, musks, porcelains, herbs etc. being traded.
