This book presents information on those historical sites and relics of the past still visible in present-day Jakarta, the capital of the Indonesian Republic, its monuments, squares, walls and furniture that have survived the ravages of time. Some monuments are connected with the Dutch colonial period, activities of the indigenous people and of the Chinese, Arab and other immigrants. There is a Hindu memorial stone, a Dutch church for Portuguese Protestants, a Chinese temple with a Muslim kramat (holy tomb), a mosque with Delft tiles depicting men and animalscosmopolitan character.
