Diard & Duvaucel: French Natural History Drawings of Singapore and Southeast Asia (1818-1820)

Information About

Pierre-Medard Diard and Alfred Duvaucel are two French naturalists who accompanied Stamford Raffles on his trips to Penang, Singapore and Indonesia between 1818-1820. Their first collecting expedition to Singapore in 1819 resulted in a collection of detailed and accurate drawings of the region's natural history, including plants, animals, and insects. Diard & Duvaucel is an initiative between the Embassy of France in Singapore and the National Library to celebrate the deep ties between France and Singapore, as well as the regional biodiversity. The illustrations are accompanied by essays and captions written by curators and scientists.
