This Italian-Malay and Malay-Italian dictionary was compiled in Singapore by Giovanni Gaggino, an Italian merchant, ship captain, and avid explorer, as a handy guide for his compatriots in their commercial dealings and travels in the Malay archipelago. The dictionary is preceded by a guide to Malay pronunciation, alphabet, and grammar, a condensed Italian-Malay index of key words, as well as a conversation manual. The guide also provides descriptions of notable Singapore sites and landmarks, such as the Singapore River, Cavenagh Bridge, and the Botanic Gardens. This is the second edition. The first edition was published in 1884.
