a Catalogue of Oral History Interviews. It embraces the Indian community and its component sub-groups. The Indian community is not a monolithic one but is made up of many sub-groups from Tamils (from India and Sri Lanka) to Sikhs, Gujeratis, Malayalees, Bengalis and so on. There are linguistic differences between these groups but English is widely used. Occupations differ as well. Although the lower ranks of the colonial civil services were filled by many Indians, they are found spread across in many occupations from wage labouring to running businesses.
