This publication is an account of the official Embassy of Great Britain to China, taken from the papers of the first ambassador, Sir George Macartney. The publication is written by George Staunton, who accompanied the ambassador on the journey to China. Volume two details the journey of the Sir George Macartney within China, dealings with the Chinese court, and the ambassador's journey back to England.
