广东顺德自古有梳起不嫁的风俗. 廿世纪卅年代有这么一批特殊女子, 俗称妈姐, 南下谋生, 在新加坡任帮佣, 养活自己与乡亲, 晚年则异地或回乡终老. 此书讲述了妈姐这个群体在新加坡的足迹, 及她们为许多新加坡家庭所作出的贡献.
