This publication contains paintings and photographs of Singapore from the period 1819 to 1945. These paintings and photographs depict waterfront and river scenes, street and rural scenes, buildings, transport, people, and scenes of daily life in Singapore before World War II. The photographs are preceded by an essay on a short history of Singapore by Dr. Wong Lin Ken, Raffles Professor of History from the National University of Singapore.
