Debuting in 2010 with their eponymous EP, Seyra’s brand of dreamy indie-pop has been compared to the likes of modern songstresses Feist, Rachel Yamagata and Regina Spektor. Seyra began in 2009 as vocalist and frontwoman Sarah Ismail’s bedroom project, and has since evolved into a full-fledged band including guitarist Khidir Osman, bassist Nadia Rosmaly, flautist and glockenspiel player Rupak George, Zack He on percussion as well as harmonica and drummer Irwan Manap. In 2012 they embarked on a tour of New Delhi, India in support of their bilingual release “Send Me On | Jauh”. They have been featured in TimeOut, Nylon, Juice as well as TODAY Newspaper as a promising and upcoming act to watch out for. The single “Jauh” off that release was nominated in the prestigious Anugerah Planet Muzik Awards 2013 for “Best Singapore Song”, boding well for their upcoming album release. They have already cut their teeth as live performers, opening for award-winning singer-songwriter Yuna’s showcase in Singapore as well as performing alongside international acts such as Australia’s Gabriel Lynch and Hong Kong’s Noughts & Exes. Their elaborately layered melodies and distinctive, ethereal sound of their music makes them stand out in the next generation of great Singaporean performers.
