Meyappa Chettiar Road is located along Upper Serangoon Road in the Potong Pasir area. Meyappa Chettiarcame to Singapore from Kallupatti in India. He worked as a private financier and was also a landowner. Many of his properties were along that road. It was customary in the 1930s for new roads to be named after property owners. Following the tradition, in 1932, it was named Meyappa Chettiar Road. Later, in the 1980s, with the establishment of Sri Siva Durga Temple nearby, it became a busy thoroughfare for Tamils.
