KINDS Family

KINDS Family is one of the organisations based on micro-communities within the larger Tamil community. Its primary aim is to provide a platform for Kallar families to develop a sense of common identity and interest and to nurture the younger generation with their unique culture, values, and practices. The Kallars are an ancient community of Tamils in India, with a history of rulers, landlords, and farmers. They have also been part of Singapore’s Tamil community from the beginning of the colonial period. 

KINDS, founded by Rudra Ravichandran and other community members, was formally registered in 2011 with A Ilangovan as the Founding President.  While the exact number of Kallars in Singapore is unknown, the organisation had approximately 200 registered members by early 2025. Apart from practising and preserving their cultural customs and providing support for their community’s educational and professional development, members are active volunteers for many social causes. These included the Tamil Digital Heritage Project and national efforts for sustainability and health promotion. 

When KINDS Family celebrated its 15th year in 2025, it pledged to organise a blood donation drive each year for the next three years, aiming to collect 100 blood donations annually.
