Bisme Radio, established in 2017, is a non-profit, 24-hour, online radio station based on Islamic values and teachings. Bisme offers a wide range of Tamil programmes designed to inform, educate and entertain its listeners.
Bisme was founded by Seeni Jaafar Ghany, a businessman who undertook to launch the radio station as a volunteer community service. The station, called initially Bisme Islamic Radio, aims to impart accurate and unbiased Islamic knowledge. However, with an expanded agenda that goes beyond Islam, the station has changed its name slightly to Bisme Radio. It offers a diverse range of programmes designed to enhance the spiritual and intellectual lives of its listeners. Featuring interviews with community leaders, these programmes provide valuable insights into living a holistic life, especially for the Singapore Indian Muslim community. Bisme aspires to become “a vital source of inspiration, education, and cultural identity and a voice of the Indian Muslim community”. The station is dedicated to promoting peace and harmony within Singapore's diverse society. It has been a strong advocate of moderate Islam, emphasising inter-faith tolerance and religious cohesion.
Bisme has cultivated a global audience, which, according to the station’s website, has grown to over 600,000 as of 2024.
Collaborating with organisations such as the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS), the station supports various community events and social causes. Other notable partners include Jamiyah Singapore, the Muslim Kidney Action Association, the Sree Narayana Mission, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and the Federation of Singapore Indian Muslims.
One of its notable social initiatives is the Bangladeshi Transient Workers Programme, which addresses the needs of transient workers. It is conducted in collaboration with MUIS, funded by MOM. Another significant initiative is ‘Bisme’s Helping Hand,’ which provides food support to 34 orphanages in Batam, aiding children and the destitute.
The station also hosts a community care call-in service to assist those in distress, providing counselling and guidance, and connecting them with appropriate organisations for timely help.
