R. Dhinakaran, popularly known as Dhina, is one of the few Tamils who have been selected as a Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP). He served as an NMP from 2012 to 2014. He represented the business community, having been a businessman for over three decades. 

He has been the Managing Director of the Jay Gee Group of Companies in Singapore, specialising in retailing international fashion and lifestyle brands. He was the President of the Singapore Retailers Association from 2016 to 2022. He was also a member of the Charity Council of Singapore and the Singapore Productivity Centre Board. He had served as Vice President of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants, Vice Chairman of the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Deputy Chairman of the Workforce Development Agency, and Deputy Chairman of SkillsFuture Singapore. A Chartered Accountant and holder of a Master's degree in Business Administration, Dhinakaran has served in the academic sphere as a member of the Board of Trustees at the Singapore University of Social Sciences and was formerly a member of the SIM Governing Council. 

Dhinakaran has also been active in community service and served in several capacities such as Justice of the Peace, Vice Chairman of the Hindu Endowments Board, member of the Indian Heritage Centre Advisory Board, and Member of the Board of Thye Hua Kwan Moral Charities Ltd. Throughout the Tamil community, Dhinakaran is widely known for his promotion of Tamil language and education. He is a frequent guest of honour at Tamil events. 

In recognition of his accomplishments, Dhinakaran was given the Friends of the MCCY Award in 2013 by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, and the Public Service Medal in 2017 as a National Day award.
