Jnanasurya, a weekly launched in 1882, is considered the oldest Tamil weekly in Singapore. It covered a wide range of topics, including local, Indian, and global news. Even before the turn of the century, the magazine expanded its content to include articles of social interest, taking a critical stance against child marriage while championing widow remarriage.
Published by the Board of Education, the magazine was edited by S K Magadum Sahib whose Denodaya Press printed it. Jnanasurya was a four-page publication released every Monday. Alongside letters and articles, the magazine featured various other sections, including world news, India news, market commodity prices, and more. There is no information about when the magazine ceased publication.
