Kalamanjari was founded in 2018 by Soundara Nayaki Vairavan to promote and teach Tamil classical music. A major contribution by this Singapore-registered organisation is a Memorandum of Understanding it signed with the Tamil Isai Sangam in Chennai, India, in 2023, through which the Sangam conducts examinations in Bharatanatyam, violin, veena and mirudangam for the Kalamanjari students.
The organisation promotes Tamil music through participation in the LISHA Pongal Festival and the Tamil Language Festival. It has staged notable productions based on classical Tamil literary works and on Tamil folk songs. It has conducted an online international conference on Tamil folk songs and has presented foreign productions based on Tirukural, the revered ethical treatise in Tamil.
Kalamanjari entered into the Singapore Book of Records in 2023, by creating images of iconic Tamil figures such as Tiruvalluvar, Bharati, Avvai, Bharatidasan by using ice-cream sticks.
