Shopping at at Hock Suan’s shop vs Yaohan

Recollection
Transcript of 9 July 2018 interview with Pauline Tan (resident of #79 Chestnut Drive from 1971 to late 90s) recorded by Chan Kim Yin : Question: Where would you shop or do your marketing in the 70s? For shopping, the nearest mall was Bukit Timah Plaza where they had a Yaohan supermarket. But we seldom went there as we had our Hock Suan provision shop just down the road. He would provide all our groceries -- we would simply call and he would deliver. He had quite a lucrative business when all the houses came up . I think he did well. In the mornings, there would be a blue VW van selling pork, chicken , fish and vegetables. The van would come into #77 driveway. The vendors would display all the goods in baskets ... that was where we did most of our marketing! And our neighbours nearby would walk into the driveway whenever they spotted the van . Therefore we really need not go to any wet market or supermarkets .
