Park Road School : school song

Recollection
Our school song was written by Mrs Moey, our school principal. In the picture, she is seated fifth from the left. She always wear "SAM FOO", which literally means "blouse and pants" in Cantonese. The loose pants suited her as she walks with a limp. Not sure what happened and of course, at that age, Primary School, none of us dared to ask her what happened. The lyrics are as follows: 1 We gather here at Park Road School Imbued with a sense of virtue And at our work and at our play We'll try to shine in every way. In Park Road School we'll always show The way to greater fame And to our nation Singapore Our loyalty proclaim 2 We will exemplify The best there is in youth And be united in our loyalty To our school and our country. In Park Road School we'll always show The way to greater fame And to our nation Singapore Our loyalty proclaim I remembered that for many years, I could never figure out what the word IMBUED means until Primary 6. Now as I look at the song, I realised it is truly meaningful. But when I was in Primary School, somehow, the School Song was rather long as we had to sing it during morning assembly standing still. During morning assembly, the school song will be played from a tape recorder and will be blaring at us via a stand-alone amplifier speaker. The song was sung after the National Anthem and the pledge. In Primary 6, as a school prefect, I remember being on duty each morning with another prefect to raise the flag slowly as the song was sung. We had to be in school early to pick up the Singapore Flag and the School Flag from the School Office and then tie them up at the two flag poles ready for assembly. Once a while, either the flag gets stuck on its way up the flag pole or the tape recorder breaks down. Following assembly, for many years, we will have to take out our tooth brush and mug and squat beside the drain and brush our teeth under the supervision of our form teacher. We were taught how to brush our teeth the right way ie from top to bottom instead of sideways from left to right. Somehow, I never got to do it correctly even now. Recently, my dentist told me that my wrong way of brushing my teeth is “sawing” away the gums which due to aging is not growing back. As a result, part of the root is exposed causing “sensitive” teeth. Now I know why SENSODYNE toothpaste is so popular among the senior citizens.
